Customer Review: Best deal on a DSLR

This is an incredible camera for the money. It has amazing photo quality and features typically associated with cameras 3-5 times its cost. The wide range of colors available is very cool, allowing you to personalize you camera. I got the purple one for my wife! With the proper memory card, this camera will take pictures faster than you can press the button! Wide range of ISO speeds makes for some incredible stop-action photos and beautifully foggy water shots.
The automatic mode works really well for the point-and-shoot fans. Manual mode allows every conceivable type of adjustment and priority, but there's a pretty big learning curve if you're new to DSLR's.
Built-in filters allow for some really cool effects, but personally, I would rather take a standard photo and apply the filters and effects in Photoshop (if I wanted them at all). The only exception to this would be using the black and white or sepia filters. Converting a color photo to black and white (or sepia) never quite looks as good as it does when the picture is taken in back and white (or sepia).
The flash is nothing to write home about. In some situations it does really well, in other situations the flash is underwhelming. I was using a remote umbrella flash and the camera's flash wasn't strong enough to trigger the remote so I had to use a hot shoe adapter.
I love that I can use my old Pentax lenses with this camera. The plastic lens that comes with the camera is not bad at all. It's lightweight and takes a pretty darn good picture. However, I can also use my Sigma lenses and filters from my old SLR (that just sits collecting dust) and have all the flexibility (and more) with the new camera as I had with the old.
This camera, despite being plastic, is very durable. I was taking pictures of an uncharacteristic May snow in Arizona when I slipped on the ice. When I landed I heard a horrible CRACK and thought that the heavy metal Sigma zoom lens had snapped off the camera. Nope. The camera was still perfect; the cracking sound was my left arm breaking mid-humerus. (I got the photo, too!)
I have noticed an occasional issue when using the bulb setting. I was outside taking moon and star photos and using the bulb setting when the camera froze up. It sounded like there was a tiny electric motor running inside the camera (very quietly) and the camera stopped responding. Sometimes, if I waited long enough, the camera would start working again but my 1-to-10 minute exposure was lost. I missed some great shooting star and satellite photos that way. Sometimes the only way to get the camera to respond again was to remove the batteries - essentially rebooting the camera. Not cool.
All-in-all, this is an amazing camera that I would highly recommend to anyone. You're not going to do any better than this camera without spending several thousand dollars. This camera is even on-par with some of those multi-kilobuck cameras. As long as the bulb setting is not essential for your work, you can't go wrong.
